Had my first meeting with Lesley last night. It started by getting to squeeze her adorable puppy, Georgia. I'm in love! It really, really, really makes me want a little buddy.
We went over schedules, nifty new gadgets that I'll need to torture my shins, hips, and lower back. I'm WAY more messed up than I thought I was. Physically. Who knew those parts of my back that I REFUSE to let Dan my massage man touch - should really be worked out. Hmmm. If he doesn't touch them, they don't hurt, then I don't have to think about it. (NOT A GOOD SOLUTION!) Let's add that to the list of things that need to be discussed with the therapist. :-)
We talked about the group workout the week before - great, no pain.....until Saturday when I couldn't lift myself out of bed because my upper abs hurt so much I thought I was going to die a slow painful death. It was actually quite comical and made for good laughs from my friends. Apparently tomorrow night we'll be doing a little less of whatever made them hurt.
Onto the workout. It was good - elliptical then recumbent bike. Not too easy but not excruciating. I think it was meant for Lesley to understand the way I work (I divulged all of my secrets - how I push/don't push myself, comfort levels, etc.)
She asked about whether I would follow the workouts or go renegade if they were too hard. I laughed - I'm a rule follower, if it's written down, then I have to do exactly what it says. Otherwise, what's the point?! She's the expert, I'm definitely not.
I'm so excited to be part of the CL team! Life's been crazy, and I think this is totally where I'm meant to be at this point.

Well....here we are.
I've committed to train for a half ironman. The goal is to do it the summer before I turn 4-0. Geez-us! How the hell can I be three years from 40!? Gaaaa!
Well, that's the goal. In order for me to get to that goal, I need to do several things. One of the biggies was to get professional help. As in a proper triathlon coach, not a therapist. Although I've got a great one if you're looking.
I met Lesley online....i think that's how I'll always say how I found her. It's funny to me, but then again sometimes I'm the only one laughing at my jokes. Actually, I did find her through some blog I read, or website...though I can't remember exactly how I found her. She seemed like the perfect fit and so I met with her briefly to talk about my current abilities, what I wanted out of coaching, etc. She seems very knowledgeable and has a great base of clients that were very excited to tell me stories of their experiences with her and how she got them to their (insert race/goal here). It was very inspiring.
After a few months of hemming and hawing I decided the only way I would be able to do this was to take the plunge and go for it. I started with the Coach Lesely program on Monday. It's Friday....and I haven't died yet, although last night was tough and I can't really move my arms today.
The great thing (and something I really need) about her program is that it's really structured. My workouts are sent to me, group workouts are scheduled, and everything is perfectly packaged on a website where I can go in, check what I need to do for the workout, log it and be done. LOVE IT!
I went to the circuit class last night and got to meet some of her other clients. Everyone was so nice! I figured they would be but it was definitely a first day in a new school moment. I was so nervous I thought about making any excuse not to go, but I didn't. I got a great workout, met a few very nice people and now I'm on the road to achieving this great goal.
Some fun facts about my abilities/disabilites to doing this race:
I tore my ACL playing soccer several years ago. I haven't run since. Running is kind of a big thing in doing this race.
I need to learn to run.
I broke up with my bike after the Danskin this summer. I'm looking for a new one. Let me know if you'd like to set me up on a blind date with a new bike.
I'm not at all nervous about the long swim...that will be my fastest/easiest leg.
I'm hoping to chronicle my journey to a half ironman. It should be an interestingly bumpy ride.
